It was twenty seven years ago today…

when Paul and Sally began to play…  Play is about creativity, spontaneity, engagement, give and take, handling disagreement and lots of other things!  But that doesn’t mean we haven’t worked hard at our marriage – being so different we have had to!  This is J B Phillips’ translation of the passage we had read at our wedding – the heading is very apt – and the final line probably sums up much of what we think about the last 27 years!

I pray that you may know God’s power in practice

14-19 When I think of the greatness of this great plan I fall on my knees before God the Father (from whom all fatherhood, earthly or heavenly, derives its name), and I pray that out of the glorious richness of his resources he will enable you to know the strength of the spirit’s inner re-inforcement—that Christ may actually live in your hearts by your faith. And I pray that you, firmly fixed in love yourselves, may be able to grasp (with all Christians) how wide and deep and long and high is the love of Christ—and to know for yourselves that love so far beyond our comprehension. May you be filled though all your being with God himself!

20-21 Now to him who by his power within us is able to do far more than we ever dare to ask or imagine—to him be glory in the Church through Jesus Christ for ever and ever, amen!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS! It is a huge achievement for you both – and one I have been very privileged to observe over many of those years – the power of God at work in you, and through you, bringing wonderful development and growth, and indeed reflecting the very character of that God. From 2 others who have also had to work hard to manage differences and somehow grown so much stronger as individuals and a couple. R&C.

    Enjoy your celebrations!

  2. Congratulations! I pray that you may have many more happy years ‘playing’ together. As my Nana always used to say to me, “Work hard and play hard”. God certainally had great plans for you both and I am sure he has many more to come! Just spending time with you, it is so obvious that God lives within your hearts. Through your faith his love shines out of you. May you continue to be filled through all your being with God, and may he continue to bless you as you bless others. I am so priveleged to know you.
