Winterbourne is a garden, part of the University of Birmingham that I enjoy wondering and wandering around. I went there after I handed my thesis in to soothe my soul! The exhibition in the gallery was various pieces of wood, this was one of them.

Yesterday I was making phone calls to finish the last academic year off as the final exam board took place while making plans for next year as we mapped the whole of the first year on a chart and worked out who might do what. This time next week we will be in the midst of our community week, the threshold of a new opportunity for our first years, a new sense of what God is saying, a new place to live for many and a new group to belong to. It is not always comfortable to dwell in a place of liminality, transition can be painful but we continue to be thankful for the grace, joy and peace we experience in another new year. One of my favourite poems begins “Tomorrow starts the night before…” I am in the night before…
