Honest Christianity – it doesn’t have to cost the earth

Earth blog

We stayed in a place where this picture was up in the room. I suspect most of us have used the phrase “it doesn’t cost the earth” referring to something not particularly expensive. What I liked about this poster was that it reminds us that our heating, lighting, hot water, appliances, technology, travel etc is not cost or moral neutral. The earth pays as well as us.

Last week at college I was teaching salvation with the students. We were exploring shalom, the holistic nature of salvation, not only for ourselves as individuals or others but for our society and our planet. Perhaps this Lent we could embrace energy saving activities as part of our discipline.
