It can sometimes feel that the object of life is to become safe, secure. To manage our affairs, pressures, problems so that life is stressless, comfortable. This can often feel as though this is a virtuous, sign of the God blessed life.
Our quote would suggest another way, a different aim. Advent is a time for waiting, preparing. Perhaps we would do well to prepare for a life of discomfort. Not just by circumstances, problems, but by intension. To live that only works by a reliance on faith, a trust in God. To serve and care in places of pain, suffering, this is not just to wait for, but prepare for.
